Pinecone Home State-Shaped Picture Frame [Review + Giveaway]

I received this product for review purposes, all opinions are my own.

After all of the comments on my Instagram post of the state-shaped picture frames, I am so excited to finally introduce you to Pinecone Home! They're a small business that creates quality handmade items for your home. Their Missouri and Georgia picture frames have recently made their way on to my photo wall and I couldn't be happier! Seriously, every time I glance over at the frames on the wall, I smile.

From the moment I opened the large white box from Cincinnati, I was blown away. Not only were the picture frames perfect (and actually about a million times nicer than I was expecting), but the packaging was pretty perfect as well. Each frame came nestled cozily in a cardboard sheet with hanging directions. Included, was also a cardboard template, because honestly, who has the time or patience to figure out where to hammer the nails into the wall?

Once I decided where I wanted each frame to hang, I used the templates to position the nails. From there, the frame literally slid right onto the nails without having to wiggle and fight with it. Veronica could have done it. That simple. Awe.

What I like best about the state-shaped frames, is that they're lightweight, yet sturdy feeling. They're made of MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard), which is not so great for furniture, but relatively wonderful for home decor. Especially when you're moving every few years and need to keep within your weight limits.

Each frame is precisely cut and holds a 4x6" photo behind a glass pane and comes in your choice of 11 hand-painted colors. Custom colors are available with a surcharge. If a stunning photo wall isn't your thing, picture frame stands are available so that you can show off your state pride on a coffee table or night stand.

The uniqueness of Pinecone Home's state-shaped frames add a special touch to my photo display. As a military wife, they're a fantastic decor piece that highlights where our family has been stationed.  They could also be used as a reminder of "home." Although I'm from Florida, so sometimes I'd prefer to forget. They'd also be a great way to highlight a special family vacation.

Because the people at Pinecone Home are awesome, they're giving two people the chance to win the frame of their choice. Make sure to spread the word and encourage your friends to enter. If the giveaway surpasses 500 entries, we'll add a third winner.

Enter below, and make sure to check out their shop for these state-shaped frames as well as other beautiful handmade items.

Baby Safety Month [+ Giveaway]

I can't think of anything more important than keeping my three little ladies safe. There are the obvious safety precautions, such as blocking off the stairs, covering up electrical outlets, and buckling into a car seat whenever you hit the road. However, did you know that car seats may be ineffective when used improperly?

As a first time mom, I had no idea that there were car seat rules. I figured if Veronica was buckled in, she would be safe in the event of an accident. Unfortunately, that's not true, and more than 9,000 children age 12 and under died in crashes in the past decade. (Source) For Baby Safety Month, I teamed up with some other fantastic bloggers to bring you some baby safety tips.

Here are a few tips for keeping your little one safe in the car:
  • Use a new(er) car seat: Did you know that car seats have expiration dates? Be sure to check the date on your seat before strapping your little one in. Also, be sure that the seat you're using, has never been in an accident, as this can reduce effectiveness. If you must use an older seat, be sure to check it's recall status
  • Make sure the straps are tight enough: The straps should lie flat against your child. You shouldn't be able to pinch any of the straps between your fingers. If you can, the straps should be tightened.
  • Remove bulky clothing such as winter coats: In the event of an accident, safety straps may not be able to provide adequate protection over a coat. Instead, layer a blanket over your child after they've been buckled in.
  • The chest clip belongs on the chest. This one might seem obvious, but it's incredible how many children have the clips down near their stomach.  The clips should be flat and aligned with the child's armpits.
  • Make sure that straps are positioned correctly: Double check with the user's manual, but normally, the straps on a rear-facing seat should be at or slightly below the child's shoulders.
Most importantly, make sure that you're actually using a car seat and that it's the appropriate car seat for your child's size.

And now for the giveaway, brought to you by: True Agape, This Ole Mom, Ramblings of a Marine Wife, Krafts and Kiddos, and myself. The giveaway runs from today, September 15, through Monday, September 22. The winner will have until that Friday to respond before a new winner is chosen.

Philips Norelco Hair Clipper 7100 + #HighNTight Campaign

I received this product complimentary for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

Not too long after we got married, my wonderful trusting husband gave me the chance to cut his hair. Let's just say that hairdresser I am not. When the opportunity recently presented itself to give the Philips Norelco Hair Clipper 7100 a try, I knew that I wouldn't be the one doing any cutting. Instead I stood back an watched as Hubs cut his own hair. Scary stuff, y'all!

Right off the bat, I was impressed with this clipper for two reasons. The first being that unlike the traditional clipper that I'm used to where you have to switch out the little combs for the length, this clipper has a dial that allows you to adjust the length setting instantly. The second cool feature is that this clipper is capable of being cordless. Since we used it right out of the box, we had to have it plugged in, but if you're willing to charge for an hour, you'll get 120 minutes of cordless use.

In the end, I was actually impressed with Husbter's hair cutting skills. The Philips Norelco Hair Clipper 7100 made it pretty simple to achieve the High & Tight look.

In an effort to make a visual statement with the High & Tight, Philips Norelco is asking for guys to show off their iconic military haircuts with the "High & Tight Salute" campaign. Philips Norelco hopes to drive awareness for organizations that support our service members and their families with this campaign. To kick it off, they are donating $25,000 to Operation Homefront with an additional $5,000 as they ask their fans to upload their own High & Tight photos to Twitter and tag @PhilipsNorelco with the hashtag #HighNTight.

Need some guidance? Let baseball player Nick Swisher show you how it's done: here.

By uploading your photo, you also have a chance to win your very own Philips Norelco Hair Clipper 7100. Enter for your chance to win via the Rafflecopter widget below.

Need + Want

When John is off from work, there isn't much in the cleaning department that gets done around the house. Usually, the dishes pile up in the sink over the weekend until I get around to loading the dishwasher on Monday morning. I blame it on wanting to snuggle with my love while I actually have him around. Having him home for two weeks did not bode well for my to do list.

With Baby J making her arrival in just over a month, there are so many things that I need to get done. In fact, aside from moving the changing table around in Adri's room, I haven't done a single thing to prepare for our new baby. With Veronica, the clothes had all been washed and separated by this point. I can't completely blame having my husband around though. Part of it definitely has to do with third child syndrome.

+ Want: To focus more on scrapbooking for myself. If I have a chance today, I'm going to make a thank you card for the hostess of the spouses coffee last week and maybe work on that deployment scrapbook. I enjoy making the care packages for Etsy, but it's been a while since I've actually done a project for myself.

+ Need: Stop spending money. Having friends in town hurt the bank account a little bit. We've been irresponsible adults and have avoided looking at our balances. We need to just hurry up and pay the cards off and then survive off of ramen for the next few weeks. Kidding!

+ Want: Pick up some cheap summer fun activities for the kids. This totally goes against the last bullet, I know. Veronica asked to make some sprayable sidewalk chalk, so we need some spray bottles for that. I'm thinking that we should possibly also get a kiddie pool or slip and slide so that we can enjoy our back yard.

+ Need: Go through the boxes in Adri's room which still haven't unpacked to sort out clothes by size and season. Get it all washed and put away. In the dresser that still hasn't been purchased.

+ Want: More cloth diapers. My stash is pretty decent, but I want more. I'm missing a few of boyish colored diapers. I might buy them just so that I can have a complete rainbow. I wish BumGenius would come out with some new pretty colors or patterns for me to spend money on.

+ Need: Buy the few things that I need for the little one this time around, such as these muslin blankets. They're super thin, which will be useful in Hawaii. I have a friend who uses the blankets for nursing as well as keeping the sun off of her son. I plan on doing the same. I also need to get some newborn sized diapers and that baby book that is never going to be touched.

+ Want: To cut up the receiving blankets that we currently have and turn them into reusable cloth wipes. John thinks I'm absolutely nuts, but having cloth wipes will make diaper changes and diaper laundry so much easier. Yes, I have officially become one of those insane crunchy moms.

+ Need: A nap. I know I've mentioned that Tuesdays are my busiest days. Gymnastics and grocery shopping are going to kill me today. I also still need to make a shopping list. Meal planning has not been my friend lately.

+ Want: To welcome my newest sponsor Lydia, the pretty lady behind The Few, The Proud, and This Marine Wife. She's a momma to three handsome little boys, as well as three angel babies. If her blog name didn't give it away, she's also a fellow military spouse.

+ Need: You to enter Amanda's giveaway for your chance to win this American Flag turban from Love Sewn Together.

Sponsored: Five Tips for a Successful Military Spouse Career Search

I received compensation from AT&T in exchange for posting and hosting this giveaway. All opinions are my own.

Many military spouses know how difficult it can be to find and maintain a career when you're moving every few years. Although it's been a while since I've had a job outside of the home, I have a few great tips that I've picked up along the years and from a marketing course I took in college.

1. Have a good resume: Even with gaps in employment, it's possible to have a great resume. If you haven't worked in a while, don't forget to include any applicable volunteer experience that you may have. Many military installations offer resume workshops to assist with helping you look good on paper.

2. Use your resources: Along with resume workshops, some military installations offer assistance with searching for openings or job placement. I've also seen employment fairs that bring together several employers from the community that are looking to hire. Don't forget that there are scholarships and grants available to military spouses to help with furthering your education.

3. Research, research, research: This one applies to many aspects of the job search process. You'll need to research employment requirements, average pay, etc. If you're lucky enough to score an interview, make sure to research the employer so that you're prepared for any questions that your interviewer might throw at you. Company history, awards, and what distinguishes them from their competition are great places to start.

4. Dress the part: You've heard the phrase, "dress for the job you want." Part of your research should include appropriate office attire. Depending on where you're applying/interviewing, you'll more than likely want to dress pretty conservatively. Be sure to have a clean appearance as well keep it simple with the jewelry and makeup.

5. Find a portable career: Many employers, such as AT&T, are willing to work with their employees and accommodate the frequent need for relocation. Through their website for military spouses, you can search and apply for jobs near military installations. Working from home is always a fantastic option.

Are there any additional career search tips that you'd like to add to help military spouses? Tweet your ideas to @attjobs and include #MilSpouse.

Annnd.. Now for the part that I'm sure you've all been waiting for.. The winner of the AT&T gift basket is: Amanda Sakovitz. An alternate winner will be chosen if I don't hear back.

Thank you to everyone who entered and participated!

Love, Alex

Sponsored: Top 5 Ways to Show Appreciation to Military Spouses + iPad Giveaway

I received compensation from AT&T in exchange for posting and hosting this giveaway. All opinions are my own.

In the United States, Military Spouse Appreciation Day is celebrated on the Friday before Mother's Day. This year, Military Spouse Appreciation Day falls on May 9. Although as spouses, we may not have the toughest job in the military, it is nice to have one day out of the year where our support and sacrifices are recognized.

In honor of Military Spouse Appreciation Day, here are a few ideas on how you can show appreciation for military spouses.

Top 5 ways to show appreciation to military spouses1. Reach out: Most military spouses know how difficult it can be to make friends and meet people at a new duty station. Have a new neighbor? Go say hello and introduce yourself. Try striking up a conversation with a mom sitting solo at the park. Introduce yourself to the new faces at your unit events.

2. Lend a hand: There are countless ways to show appreciation through acts of kindness, no matter how small. Bringing the trash cans back from the curb, mowing the yard, helping out with car issues, watching children for a few hours. When the service member is away, the spouse often times has to adopt roles that they were previously not familiar with. While this is usually a tremendous learning opportunity, sometimes it becomes a burden. Especially when Murphy's Law of Deployment won't cut you a break.

3. Food is good: When Hubster is gone, the girls and I practically live off of cereal and spaghetti and meatballs, with a bag of popcorn tossed in for special occasions. For some reason, I lack the motivation to cook when it's just the kids and I. A simple pre-cooked or frozen meal can go a long way in showing appreciation. It frees up a bit of kitchen time and ensures that no one is turning into a Froot Loop. These meals are also great for a spouse who may have just had a baby or has been sick.

4. Wine is better: Or coffee. Some solo adult conversation and beverages of choice are always a nice way to unwind. Because so many military spouses also take on the role of stay at home mom, time away from the kiddies (and sometimes, even the hubs) can be necessary to stay level headed in this hectic lifestyle.

5. Words of encouragement: A simple "thank you" goes a long way. I've never felt the need to be thanked for being a military spouse. The military is what my husband does and I'm just along for the ride. Our service members are the ones who deserve all the thanks for literally sacrificing their lives for our country. However, if someone feels the need to acknowledge that I'm many miles away from loved ones often times raising children on my own, I'll take it and it's very much appreciated. "I'm here if you need anything," is another good one.

What other ways can you think of to show appreciation to military spouses? Tag @att and #milspouse to share your ideas on Twitter! You can also click here to see how AT&T is supporting our troops and their families.

As a way to show appreciation, AT&T has sponsored a fantastic giveaway (pictured) which includes an iPad mini, iPad cover, t-shirt, and hat!  Enter via Rafflecopter below!

Happy Family Best Friends [Review + Giveaway]

I received two Happy Family Best Friends in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own.

I've been a huge fan of Happy Family Brands ever since I was first introduced to their products last year. Happy Family is an organic food brand which was founded and is operated by moms. Their products are packed with premium ingredients which contain various health benefits such as important vitamins, minerals, and probiotics. Most recently, I was given the opportunity to try out the new Happy Family Best Friends toddler cookies.

After first, I was a tad skeptical about how these cookies would taste. They're whole grain gluten-free cookies for toddlers with no added milk or soy. Really, how good could they be..? Well, let me tell you, they're good!! SO good, in fact, that I hogged most of one of the two packages for myself.

Best Friends come in two tasty flavors: honey buckwheat and chocolate pumpkin, in the shape of man's best friend. They're the perfect size and shape for little fingers to feed themselves. The honey buckwheat flavor reminded me a lot of a certain circus-themed box of cookies, minus all of the nasty artificial preservatives. I wasn't a huge fan of the chocolate flavor, but that could just be pregnancy related. Hubster and Veronica devoured them.

I was extremely happy with the taste and the girls' reaction to these cookies. They are definitely something that I'd purchase in the future for snack time.

You have an opportunity to try out Best Friends toddler cookies as well. I am giving away a Happy Family prize pack which includes: 2 Best Friends (one of each flavor), a tote bag, a nutrition guide, and additional Happy Family coupons. The giveaway ends at 12:00 am on February 28. The winner will have 48 hours to respond.

Be Your Own Boss [Giveaway]

This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Latina Bloggers Connect and Amway. All opinions are 100% my own.

As a stay at home mom, I used to struggle to find affordable gifts for Hubster for Christmas, his birthday, and our anniversary. To me, it didn't make sense to use the money that he earned to buy him something that he may or may not like. I even resorted to selling old jewelry at those mall kiosks. Eventually, I ran out of jewelry from ex boyfriends, and gifts to Hubster stopped. I could have gone the homemade route, but there really isn't much that could have wowed him.

For the past year and a half, I've actually been able to use this blog to make money, with posts such as this one! I was also able to expand my care package hobby and open up my own Etsy shop, that I've blogged about in the past. My profits now go to my PayPay account, that the husband doesn't have access too. A good amount of money goes back into blogging, but I was also able to afford an amazing Christmas gift this year.

Even with both kiddies around all day, I've been able to pull off half-working from home. Being my own boss allows me to create my own schedule as well as set my own expectation. Although there have been some challenges and many trials and errors, I am very satisfied with the outcome thus far.

Being a work at home mom is something that I would recommend to any mom, or dad for that matter, considering it. There are many ways to become your own boss, one of those being Amway. From their low-cost start up to their exclusive products, Amway makes it easy to start your own business. Being an entrepreneur is a challenging yet extremely fulfilling role. You can obtain more information regarding starting our own Amway business here: Amway.com/Startabusiness - http://bit.ly/1hAUGOQ

Additionally, Amway is hosting a fabulous giveaway with $710.00 worth of Amway products.
