Need + Want

When John is off from work, there isn't much in the cleaning department that gets done around the house. Usually, the dishes pile up in the sink over the weekend until I get around to loading the dishwasher on Monday morning. I blame it on wanting to snuggle with my love while I actually have him around. Having him home for two weeks did not bode well for my to do list.

With Baby J making her arrival in just over a month, there are so many things that I need to get done. In fact, aside from moving the changing table around in Adri's room, I haven't done a single thing to prepare for our new baby. With Veronica, the clothes had all been washed and separated by this point. I can't completely blame having my husband around though. Part of it definitely has to do with third child syndrome.

+ Want: To focus more on scrapbooking for myself. If I have a chance today, I'm going to make a thank you card for the hostess of the spouses coffee last week and maybe work on that deployment scrapbook. I enjoy making the care packages for Etsy, but it's been a while since I've actually done a project for myself.

+ Need: Stop spending money. Having friends in town hurt the bank account a little bit. We've been irresponsible adults and have avoided looking at our balances. We need to just hurry up and pay the cards off and then survive off of ramen for the next few weeks. Kidding!

+ Want: Pick up some cheap summer fun activities for the kids. This totally goes against the last bullet, I know. Veronica asked to make some sprayable sidewalk chalk, so we need some spray bottles for that. I'm thinking that we should possibly also get a kiddie pool or slip and slide so that we can enjoy our back yard.

+ Need: Go through the boxes in Adri's room which still haven't unpacked to sort out clothes by size and season. Get it all washed and put away. In the dresser that still hasn't been purchased.

+ Want: More cloth diapers. My stash is pretty decent, but I want more. I'm missing a few of boyish colored diapers. I might buy them just so that I can have a complete rainbow. I wish BumGenius would come out with some new pretty colors or patterns for me to spend money on.

+ Need: Buy the few things that I need for the little one this time around, such as these muslin blankets. They're super thin, which will be useful in Hawaii. I have a friend who uses the blankets for nursing as well as keeping the sun off of her son. I plan on doing the same. I also need to get some newborn sized diapers and that baby book that is never going to be touched.

+ Want: To cut up the receiving blankets that we currently have and turn them into reusable cloth wipes. John thinks I'm absolutely nuts, but having cloth wipes will make diaper changes and diaper laundry so much easier. Yes, I have officially become one of those insane crunchy moms. 

+ Need: A nap. I know I've mentioned that Tuesdays are my busiest days. Gymnastics and grocery shopping are going to kill me today. I also still need to make a shopping list. Meal planning has not been my friend lately.

Our Weekend

Now that I'm thinking about it, it doesn't seem like we did very much this weekend. The weather has been pretty crappy lately, which makes it feel like I've been trapped in a preschool for far to long. Even with the rain, we were able to break away from the monotony of being home with some quick trips out. All the cool kids seem to be doing bullet points lately, so I'm jumping on the bandwagon.

• Hubster is leaving me. Luckily, it's only for a month. He has to go to the mainland for some temporary duty. He's pretty disappointed that it's to a not so awesome location and isn't somewhere cool like Thailand. I'm still trying to figure out how we're going to survive. I suppose I've done it before with the two munchkins. I just don't wannnna!

• I started cloth diapering Adri over the weekend. The diapers that I ordered got here on Friday, so I washed them that night and started with her first diaper change on Saturday. I'm very happy with how it's gone thus far. I even ended up ordering more diapers. I'm not a huge fan of her solid stuff, which needs to be tossed in the toilet, but it really isn't that bad. I keep reminding myself that #3 will be exclusively breastfed for many many months, so I'll just be able to throw those diapers straight into the wash.

• We tried a new restaurant for dinner Saturday night. Because our friends had really hyped the place up, I took it upon myself to read all of the negative Yelp reviews to lower my expectations. It ended up being really good! Hubs wasn't as impressed. Probably because he was expecting a golden piece of ahi on his plate delivered by Ronald Reagan. Should've read the reviews..

• My boobs have become obscenely large. For me anyway. All of my regular bras seem to cut of my circulation and ability to breathe, so I picked up new bras at Target. I'm not a fan of Victoria and her crappy bras. I didn't feel like trying stuff on, so I guessed at the size and got it right. Holy moly. I can breathe again!

• The lack of craft stores on Oahu is starting to get to me. I spent hours on Friday Googleing scrapbook shops on the island. All of the ones that came up have closed down. Saturday morning was spent searching online for stores that sell paper by the sheet. I had no problem finding large pads of scrapbook paper, but not so much luck with single sheets. And the shops that had sheets, we're outrageously priced for a sheet of paper. I decided that I'm going to have my sister go to Michael's for me, and send the paper with my mom when she comes back in a few weeks. 

This week we have our 20 week ultrasound, where we'll be finding out the gender of baby #3, and V is finally starting gymnastics, yay!

Crunchy Momma in the Making

Who knew I would become such a crunchy mom?! I've been all about breastfeeding, baby-wearing, and some of those other crunchy mom things since I had Veronica, but I just placed my first order for cloth diapers. Who knew I'd be so excited about buying diapers?

Even after reading a ton of Cloth 101 blog posts, I felt like I was still confused, so I went to one of my internet friends, Jen (I swear, you guys are all named Jen!) for some help. She has the most precious little guy who is always in cloth, and I knew she'd be able to help me out.

In the past, I was slightly against cloth diapering, because I knew it would be some work. I figured that the cost of water and electric that you spend on washing would cancel out what you were saving on buying disposable diapers. Now that we live on post though, we're actually receiving rebate checks because we stay well under our allotted amount for utilities.

One of the brands that Jen mentioned was bumGenius. After researching them and a few other brands, that's who I decided to go with. I was pleasantly surprised to see that some of the diapers are all-in-one, and I won't have to worry about inserts.

I ordered four Freetime all-in-one one-size diapers to give them a shot on Adri. I've heard that cloth diapers help with potty training because they don't give off a dry feeling. One can only hope. I bought three solid girly colors and one really pretty limited edition artist diaper that I'm most excited about. I'm still waiting to see about shipping, because of course it's free to everywhere except Hawaii and Alaska. I should be invoiced shortly, and these puppies should be on their way. I can't wait to try them out!
