I Just Started Typing

It wasn't that long ago that I was hating Tuesdays. I still have to wake up earlier than usual to get the girls ready for school, but since I'm no longer doing gymnastics after preschool drop off, my day goes much more smoothly. Last week was the first Tuesday since Juliana was born that it was just her and I running the errands. It wasn't perfect, but I'll take whipping a boob out in the middle of the commissary over chasing a cranky toddler between beams and bars.

I wish I could say the boob thing was an exaggeration, but sadly it's not. As we were searching for the perfect tomatoes for BLTs last week, Juli started getting irritated. I tried to calm her in her carrier, but nothing I did seemed to work. In an effort to not be that mom with the screaming kid (although the store was pleasantly empty at 8:30 am) I took her out of the wrap and carried her in my arms. Didn't help. Five aisles later, I decided I was going to have to feed her if I wanted her to be quiet. I slipped her back into the wrap and let her go to town. Surprisingly, it wasn't nearly as terrifying as I was expecting. No crazy looks from strangers, and she just nursed while I shopped.

Today, I'll probably nurse in the car before heading in. I spent the weekend planning the menu and putting together the perfect shopping list, so hopefully it's a quick trip. I can only hope.

Speaking of planning, am I totally crazy for already having my Thanksgiving menu planned out? It started with dinner last night. I was stacking dirty dishes and I really looked how one plate looked on top of a larger plate. Which led me to thinking about how the bowl would look on top of that, and how perfect it would be filled with soup for Thanksgiving dinner. From there, my mind took off and the menu was planned. I was even trying to figure out what I would cook extras of so that I could drop off dinner for the MPs working at the gates. And how each gate is going to get their own pie. Yep. I've officially lost it.

Starting Our Vegetable Garden

I am happy to say that my first day of solo-parenting all three girls wasn't nearly as bad as I was anticipating. Other than several interruptions while the doctor and I were speaking, Juliana's appointment went well. Gymnastics was good, except for the fact that it was close to 300 degrees in the gym and poor Juli heats up so easily.

While at home, the littlest one slept the majority of the time. I used that time to take care of some minor chores. Once the big girls started getting restless, I decided it was finally time to get our little vegetable garden started. While my dad was here, we started some tomato plants which inspired me to plant even more vegetables.

Over the weekend, I bought most of the items needed to get our garden started. I picked up a big  raised garden box, along with five packets of seeds and little pots to get them started in. We already had enough dirt for this little project.

Yesterday, I let each girl choose two packets of seeds to get started. They were responsible for filling their pots with dirt, planting the seeds, and watering their pots. Afterwards, we went inside and drew pictures of what we had planted.

Today, my plan is to spend some time outside checking out our new seedlings along with the tomato plants and some sunflowers that the girls planted a few weeks back. I have a few printables courtesy of Pinterest that they'll be able to color and do a few matching activities with.

My goal now is to do more these little projects where we can incorporate learning opportunities. I'll probably check out the lesson plan for V's class and steal some of the activities that they work on on the days that she doesn't attend. I'm actually pleasantly surprised with how much she's learned in the past few weeks of school. I'm hoping that Adri picks up on some of it from our at home learning and who knows, with Juli sitting close by, maybe she'll be a baby genius too.

Gymnastics

My biggest munchkin has been in gymnastics for a few weeks now. Yesterday, she received her first progress report for the class. All of  their little skills were rated on a scale of 0 to 3. For the most part, she did really well. She did get a couple of 1's, but they were on things that she was pretty bad at.

I'm so happy with this gym, since it's much more similar to the gyms that my sister attended when we were younger. Unlike gymnastics in Missouri, there are two coaches per class, that actually help the students follow through with their skills.

The video isn't the greatest since it's form my cell phone, and Adri grabbed the phone towards the beginning of the recording, but I'm so impressed with what my little one is doing. After class, she revealed to me that she was scared jumping from bar to bar, but I think she did a great job. She's been doing great with handstands and swinging on the bars. We really need to work on the cartwheels.

Did you do gymnastics or any other fun activities as a child?

Love, Alex
