Happy Halloween!

I am so excited to be taking the girls trick or treating tonight with other toddlers! It's the first time since V was born that I've been able to go with friends who have similarly aged kids. From now until forever, I'd like to dress the girls in matching costumes. This year, they'll be dressing up as Disney princesses. Normally I don't go for the whole Disney thing, but these outfits were too cute to pass up for the girls. V is Snow White and Baby A is Cinderella.

So far this year we've had two Halloween-ish events. We visited an adorable pumpkin patch in the area the weekend before last, and just last week we attended a Fall Fest put on at Hubster's Battalion.

Poppell Farms is a pumpkin patch and corn maze located about 45 from Fort Stewart. On the day that we went, they also had the fire department there so the kids were able to climb into all sorts of vehicles. I paid $7 for all of the farm games and the hayride and both girls were free. There were plenty of photo opportunities and kiddie activities. The hayride took us to the pumpkin patch where V was able to choose a pumpkin for us.

The past couple of weeks have been spent preparing for the Battalion Fall Fest. Each company was responsible for a booth and decorating a vehicle for trunk or treat. We were in charge of the costume contest. Thankfully I have amazing friends who helped with the girls so that I could run the booth. I was a bit sad that I didn't get to hangout with my babies though. At the end of the night, they played a movie for the kids on the jumbo screen. I didn't get many pics of Baby A because she was off hanging out with Soldiers.

Hopefully I'll updating tomorrow with pictures and details from tonight. It should be fun!

Beautiful Blogger Award

In the past when I've been nominated for blog awards, I haven't really participated. I had my list of blogs that I followed, but was never really close enough to any of the other bloggers to nominate them for that mandatory step. This time is different though! The amazingly awesome Jen over at The Adventures Of Our Army Life nominated me. Thank you!! Check her out, she's one of my favorite bloggers out there! (: There are a few rules for accepting this award, so here they are!

1) Thank the person who nominated me.
Done!

2) Post award image to my page.

Done!

3) Tell 7 facts about myself

  1. Hubs and I had only been dating for 7 months when we got married.
  2. I always hoped to have a boy first, so that my other kids would have a big brother.
  3. I am addicted to Pinterest. I can spend hours pinning.
  4. I've seen every single episode of Army Wives.
  5. My favorite thing about the fall is everything pumpkin!
  6. Recently I picked up sewing as a hobby. It's not as hard as I was expecting.
  7. I have a thing for "bully breed" dogs, which sometimes makes moving with the military and finding pet-friendly homes difficult.

4)  Nominate 15 other bloggers and let them know about the nomination

Influenster Blogger Beauty VoxBox

I got my Beauty Bloggers VoxBox from Influenster last week! I've just been soo busy that I haven't had time to blog about it. After seeing posts by others who had received their boxes on their Facebook page, I was anxious to get my own box. There are a bunch of great things included in this box that I can incorporate into my everyday routine. I even managed to use four of the products at the same time yesterday for our Battalion Fall Fest.

The items in my VoxBox were:
  • Kiss Ever PRO Lash Starter Kit
  • Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin
  • Bath & Body Works Mini Candle
  • Not Your Mother's Hair Cream
  • NYC New York Color Individual Eyes Custom Compact
  • EBoost
  • No.7 Lotion
The Battalion Fall Fest was a Halloween party without the name. Kids dressed up and did their trick-or-treating at a variety of army vehicles. I put the girls in their princess costumes, but since I'm a boring mom, I didn't really dress up. I did put on the eyelashes with some smokey eye makeup.

I used the hair pins (which I've actually been wanting to buy for a while) to secure my hair while it completely dried with the Not Your Mother's Kinky Moves in it. My hair was a tiny bit short for the pins, so some of it stuck out. Not a big deal though. I always put my hair in a bun after washing it, to keep it from frizzing as it dries. The combination of the hair cream and pins worked perfectly!

The Bath and Body Works candle was sitting in my car. Seriously. Because V wanted to take it with us in the morning. The warmth from the sun plus the candle created a yummy festive scent in the car.

I probably should have used the EBoost drink when I started my day. I went eight hours nonstop doing setup stuff and manning the booth, in addition to my super intense CrossFit workout in the morning. Plus, I have a runny nose thanks to the babies being in daycare all day.

This is definitely my favorite Influenster VoxBox to date. The products are all great things that I have and can use on a regular basis. In the next couple of weeks I'll be doing more in depth reviews of some of the products bill also be blogging about the Fall Fest when I do my Halloween post.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Wordless Thursday?

Once again, it's been a few days since I've updated. Battle Buddy Sister Wife and I have been spending the nights at each others houses all week. It's been nice not having to completely focus on the kids. We've worked on a couple seeing projects and stuff for when the guys get back.

Crafting Away

I've been crafting my little heart out lately which is why I haven't been posting much. I'm currently working on making us all matching Christmas jammies. I'm finishing up on Hubster's and I'm so impressed with myself! They're slightly large, but it'll make them nice and comfy! I can't wait for him to be home to try them on.

Eff Cancer

I apologize in advance for this depressing post rant.

Just two weeks ago my sister's father-in-law passed away from cancer. They discovered it a few months ago, and by then it had already spread to his organs and there wasn't much they could do to fight it.

Early yesterday morning, my band director from high school also passed away as a result of cancer. He had also been battling for a while and wasn't making any progress with treatment.

Although I wasn't particularly close with either of these men, both of their deaths have affected me greatly. It seems as though I've been angry for the past couple of week. Why them?!

Danny's dad worked hard to bring his family here from Venezuela and worked even harder to help support them once here.

As the band director, Mr. Smith had to deal with hundred of crazy teenagers year after year. We did our best to frustrate him, and succeed the majority of the time. He bravely took on the challenge of transporting an entire marching band from Miami to Texas to preform at the Cotton Bowl. We preformed at multiple parades and even at a Phish concert.

I'm still struggling to understand why bad things happen to good people like these. I know God has His reasons but in situations like this, it's hard for me to accept that.

Source

In college Relay for Life was an excuse to stay out overnight at school with friends. Sure,
'/ we raised tons of money but never really put the thought behind it. This year I've donated to some of the students that I still know at school and dedicated a luminaria. I hope that by donating to the American Cancer Society, a cure can be found. I pray that cancer is something that I will never have to experience within my family and that my girls can grow up in a cancer-free world.

The New Influenster

I've been a member of Influenster for almost a year now. Influenster is a product review community where influential members are given the opportunity to receive products for reviewing purposes. Recently, they gave their website an ultra exciting makeover. There are now more products to review and tasks to complete.

While the new dashboard took a little getting used to, I don't have any complaints. Everything is clearly displayed and easy to find. It is much easier to find information on everyday products. Members can earn badges corresponding to their lives and earn influence points by reviewing, sharing and answering questions about those products.

As member of Influenster, I've already received 3 boxes of products for testing completely free. When VoxBoxes are sent out, brand challenges often accompany them. Members who go above an beyond to promote and review the brand challenge products may be rewarded for their effort. Prizes that I've won include a $25 Amazon credit and a variety of household soap products from Colgate-Palmolive.

There is currently another box in the mail and on it's way to me. The box that I should be receiving any day now is meant for bloggers. Influenster does it's best to send boxes to certain demographics of members. I've been lucky to also have received the Mommy VoxBox and the Latina Beauty VoxBox. Just because you fit the demographic though, doesn't mean you'll receive the box.

If you're interested in becoming a member, let me know and I can email you an invite, or visit Influenster.com to request one.

Blog Angel Reveal!

For the past 15 days, I've been a blog angel by visiting and helping promote Alicia at Quirktastic Adventures. I feel like Alicia is a lot like me minus the kids and plus some brains. Hahaha! She's an engineer.. Alicia is also fun and quirky. One of my favorite things that I learned about her, is that she's into beer and wine tastings (something that I'd love to be doing with my partner in crime).

Since the majority of the blogs that I follow are either mommy or military related, I was happy to check out someone who was totally different from my norm. I tried to creep without making it super obvious that I was her blog angel, but now that the secret it out, I can creep openly. This month she's been doing a "30 things" thing with random facts about herself. I look forward to learning more as the month progresses.

If you'd like to participate in the December Blog Angel, check out Craftbotic and sign up there.

Make sure you check out Quirktastic Adventures!!

I Made Dinner

It has been a very very long time since I've had to make a real dinner. Most meals around here consist of something like macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, or rice and beans. Lets face it, I'm not going to battle with my little ones to get them to eat real food. But tonight, since we had some friends over, I made a real meal.

I found a quiche recipe online that I followed loosely and it turned out phenomenally! I was a little scared since I've never made quiche before so I wasn't completely sure if I was doing it right. It turned out SO well that I'm going to try doing it again, take some pics, and share it with all of you.

Over the weekend Jacquie and I spent a rather large amount of time at Jo-Anns. We've crafted a whole bunch of stuff in these past couple of days. I made a Dora dress for V and started making matching pillow case dress for both girls. Florida Gators of course! I've spent the better part of tonight trying to make a fabric scrap wreath for Halloween. It's a bit more difficult than I was expecting.

Tomorrow I'll be revealing my blog angel, so stay tuned!

On another note, Sgt Robert Larson has been found near his home town of North Branch, NM. He is currently on his way back to Fort Jackson, SC with father and cousin.

I Finally Met My Neighbor

We've been living in our house for close to two years. Our next door neighbors have been there about a year and a half. Yesterday was the first time that I've ever had an actual conversation with either of them. Yes. The first time I've ever spoken to my next door neighbor. You see, I'm not exactly the most outgoing person and according to her, neither is she.

What happened is that my monster of a dog climbed over the fence when he heard her mowing her lawn. I've seen him literally climb chain link fences, but we have a six foot wooden fence. I guess that's what happens when you combine an energetic lab with the muscle of a pitbull. She came to let me know that he had escaped, but was confused as to how he got out since the gate was locked shut. Crazy doggy!

My baby eater
We ended up chatting a bit. Her husband is also deployed, which I could tell by the fact that she has recently started mowing the lawn and taking out the trash herself. She has boys that are about the same age as our girls so hopefully we'll be getting together for play dates. I'd like to invite them over for dinner some time, but I hate cooking and I never know what to make anyway.

I'm hoping that the next time we PCS something will push me to go meet the neighbors within a couple of months at least.

Side note: I hate potty training!

Halloween Care Package

I'll admit that this care package was not up to my abnormally high standards. At least in the contents department. The decorations came out awesome, but with Hubs packing up and shipping his stuff very soon, I figured it would be useless to send him a bunch of little toys and gadgets that take up space. They've been eating MRE's pretty consistently so real food is probably most appreciated anyway.

This package included:
  • 6 cans Arizona tea
  • 2 can mango juice
  • 1 box Poptarts
  • 1 box Dunkin Donut Pumpkin K-Cup (yes, they have a Keurig in Afghanistan)
  • 2 Compleats meals
  • 3 Old El Paso Stuffers
  • 2 tuna lunch kits
  • 1 bag Chex Muddy Buddies
  • Tons of Candy
  • 1 Jason mask
  • CONFETTI!
  • Extra special Halloween costume

I strategically taped the spider web to the box so that hopefully it looks like the picture above when Hubs opens it. V helped me decorated the outside with stickers and more confetti.

The "costume" that I sent is an Optimus Prime rank patch that I ordered from OML Patches for $5.50. In his fraternity, his nickname was Optimus Prime so I thought it'd be a cute little joke for him. I got the idea from another Soldier who had a Batman rank patch. I also ordered one on ACU fabric so that he can have one once he comes home.

Please continue to help spread the word about missing Soldier SGT Robert Larson. He is confirmed to have been in Gary, Indiana on Oct 9.

Also, don't forget to enter the Cleava giveaway! Only a couple of days left!
