Sunday Social

1. What was your best birthday? Probably my 22nd birthday. My husband would strongly disagree, but I had an absolute blast. I had way too much to drink, puked, went back to drinking, and then proceeded to insult everyone around me. I also managed to roll out of bed. In the morning I felt great though. John was not amused.

2. What was your best vacation? It had to have been a cruise. More than likely, our last cruise which was in the Western Caribbean, with stops in Mexico, Belize, Grand Cayman, and Roatan. We had so much fun on our excursion in Cozumel. We spent the morning cooking, followed by an all-you-can-drink afternoon. I can't wait to do it again.

3. Best date you’ve ever been on? Hubster screwed up with taking me to the Melting Pot on our first date. It was my first time there, and I fell completely in love. With the food. Unfortunately for him, he's not as big of a fan of fondue, so he has to suffer through all of my first date recreations.

4. Best Movie (quality) you’ve seen? I have a hard time choosing one. I don't really have a favorite movie, but two of the best that come to mind are The Prestige and Mr. Brooks. Looper is a good one too. I like when they make you think.

5. Best TV show ending of all time? I can't say that I've ever stuck around until the end. I'm working on getting through Breaking Bad. Then I'll probably get back to Mad Men. I've loved both of the season finales (?) for House of Cards.

Will You Be My Blogintine?

I'm excited to announce that Jen from Beebee Belly and I have teamed up to bring you a fun little Valentine's gift exchange, Will you be my Blogintine.

Bloggers will be paired together to send each other a little thoughtful valentine. The spending limit will be $10, which eases a bit of the pressure especially just after the holidays. January 31, is the deadline to sign up, and matches will be announced through Elfster on February 1.Then it's up to you to get your partner a cute little Valentine's gift.

Elfster gives participants the abilities to make wishlists, which should make it a tad easier to find the perfect gift for your Blogintine.

You can follow along with what is going on with the exchange and join here. It should be a fun time and a great opportunity to meet fellow bloggers.

Christmas Tag!

This year, I was tagged by one of my blog BFFs, Lanaya of Raising Reagan, for a fun little game of Christmas tag. Lanaya tagged ten friends and asked ten questions. After I answer these questions, I'm going to tag ten of my friends two answer the same questions.

1.       What do you love the most about Christmas time?
There really isn't one specific thing that I like best. I love all of the decorations everywhere. I love how excited the girls get when they see Santa or animals that are dressed up. I love that everyone seems to be in a jolly and more giving mood.
2.       Do you celebrate the holiday in style or is Bah-Humbug for you?
The jury is still out on this one. Last year I was SO excited to decorate and make everything perfect, because I thought Hubby was going to be home from Afghanistan for Christmas. This year, since we still don't have a home, I'm kinda blah about it. If we managed to get into the house and get our household goods before Christmas, I'd probably go all out unpacking that stuff before anything else..
3.       Are you leaving anything out for Santa Claus this year so he remembers to leave your presents?
It really just depends on where we are. I am DYING to make Christmas cookies. It won't be happening in the this hotel. If we can get some baked, Santa will definitely be getting a plate. And I'm going to eat them all myself while the kids are in bed.
4.       What is the one gift you are most looking forward to GIVING? {It can be to your kids, another family member, etc – remember to be discreet if they read your blog!}
I am so so so excited for Hubster's gift. It was something that he kind of mentioned in passing. I found the perfect version on Etsy for his office.
5.       What is your all-time favorite Christmas movie?
Since I was a kid, I've always really like Miracle on 34th Street. The newer one, not the old one. The ending is my favorite part.
6.       What is your all-time favorite Christmas song?
Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You. I honestly don't even really like Mariah, but I love this song.

7.       If given the opportunity would you participate in an “Ugly Sweater” party and what sweater would you wear?  Peruse one on the internet or even in your own closet and show us!
I would totally do it! I've always wanted to go to one, but have never been a part of the cool group that does it. I don't have an ugly sweater, so I'd have to hit up the thrift shop. No ugly sweater would be complete without the light up earrings and reindeer antlers.

8.       Have you started any Christmas traditions this year that you plan on carrying forward?
As a family, so far the only real tradition is that we drive around on Christmas Eve looking at Christmas lights. Last year, I started making matching pajamas for the four of us, but I don't think I'll have time this year.
9.       It’s Christmas morning … what does it look like outside where you live?
Well, this year, there are lots of palm trees and sunshine. Green grass, green trees and bright flowers. It was very similar around Christmas time in Miami. I've honestly only seen real snow once in my entire life, and that was in March of this year. Prior to that, I had seen flurries maybe three times.
10.   You just found yourself standing under the mistletoe … who comes up to give you a kiss first?
My husband, of course. And knowing him, he'd probably be following me around all day trying to dangle it over me.

And now for my ten tags. Answer these same questions, tag ten friends of your own, and then come back here and leave the link to your post! Thanks Lanaya!!

Share Your Accent Link Up!

I've been insanely excited for this link up since last week! I loved watching Dara's video last week, so I'm really looking forward to watching everyone's videos today!

If you have not yet recorded your video to share, it's super easy to do so. Go here to take the quiz, and record yourself doing so. It literally takes three minutes. THREE.

My quiz results were accurate. Did the quiz get your accent right?

It's Award Season

Is it award season? I really don't know. I mostly hate award shows. My favorites never win. When it comes to blog awards though, three of my favorites were nominated, and have nominated me. Yay!

The first award is the Squirrely Blogger Award, from Lanaya at Raising Reagan. I have no idea what the hell that means, but I suppose it's a good thing? Do I resemble a rabid animal with nuts in my mouth. Bahaha! For this award I get to let you guys in on seven quirky facts about myself and nominate a few other bloggers for the award.

1. I don't like odd numbers. Everything has to have a pair.
2. I cut my own hair. I have a way to layer it perfectly, and don't trust anyone else to do it to my standards.
3. Mustaches creep me out. Thank you military grooming standards!
4. I prefer to drive barefoot. Actually, I prefer to do most things barefoot. I blame my dad.
5. I'm a big judgmental B. I always feel bad afterwards when people are nothing like what I though.
6. I could live on boneless BBQ wings and bleu cheese. OMG! YUM!
7. I don't mind watching the Barney theme song all day if it means that the girls will act right.

Nominees:
Kelsey at Pardon My French
Jenn at Life with the Lieutenant
My second award is the Sunshine Award, from Jen at The Adventures of Our Army Life AND Nicole at Adventures of a Semper Fi Family. Funny that they have similar but opposite-ish names, right?

    The Rules Are:
    1. Include the award logo in your post.
    2. Link to the person who nominated you.
    3. Answer 10 questions about yourself.
    4. Nominate 10 bloggers to receive the award.
    Jen's questions for me were:
    1. What is your biggest fear? One of my biggest fears is that something will happen to me, and my girls won't have me around as they're growing up.
    2. Are you a night owl or an early bird? Most definitely a night owl! I hate having to wake up early in the mornings.
    3. If you could change one thing from your past what would it be? Probably doing better in college, and being more involved. I didn't have bad grades, but they weren't great either. I did the sorority thing, but I wish I would have done more outside of that.
    4. Do you have any pets, if so what kind? My big ole baby Caesar. He's a pit/lab mix.
    5. Did you do everything you wanted to do this summer? Not everything, but we did get a bunch of the items on my Bucket List knocked off.
    6. What is your favorite song? I can't help but dance in the car every time Blurred Lines comes on. Come on guys, Robin Thicke is hot.
    7. If you were on a deserted island what 3 things would you take with you? Cell phone and charger (it counts as one), some sunscreen, and my hubby to find us food and build shelter. LOL
    8. Would you rather cook or go out to eat? Because I'm totally cheap, I always choose cooking. I'd much rather have someone cooking for me for free thought.
    9. What is your dream car? Is it totally insane that I hope to own a Bentley GT Continental one day? We'd only have to sell our house to be able to afford it.
    10. If you could have any job in the world what would it be? I wish I could have my college job back. I worked at Armani doing the visual stuff in the store. Dressing mannequins, putting vinyls on the windows, placing items on the shelves. It was seriously such a fun job. Basically I got to make things pretty all day.

    And here are Nicole's questions:
    1. What is the most recent thing you bought for yourself (food doesn't count)? Share a pic. I've done so much shopping lately! My dress for the military ball, which I'm not revealing yet, but yesterday a package came from Target. I got an EOS ball. I'm obsessed with them, and trying to grow my rainbow.

    2. If you could hop a plane this weekend and go anywhere in the US, where would you go? Why? Seriously, Hawaii! LOL I am SO ready to be there already! This next month can't go by quickly enough!
    3. Who is the first person you call when you have good news? Depends on what it is.. It varies from Hubster, to sister, to mom.
    4. What is your least favorite blog topic to read? No one hate me please. I really don't like reviews or sponsored guest posts. I realize I do them from time to time, but lately I've only been accepting things that I'm really really interested in, or really apply to my life and the life of my readers. I have one post coming up in a few weeks that I'm super excited about.
    5. What is your favorite blog topic to read? I really like reading informative posts relating to military life, and kid stuff.
    6. What is the 10th picture on your phone (or computer)? We want to see it! I just recently deleted all of the photos on my phone to make new ones, so this is pretty recent.

    7. What is one thing you do to spoil yourself? Does taking a shower count? LOL Showering might be my high point each week.
    8. Who is your favorite coffee date? My battle buddy Jac, back at Fort Stewart. She would make me coffee every morning before the gym when our guys were gone.
    9. Share the link to your favorite blog post from your blog. I really liked this one, about real life friends knowing about my blog.
    10. What blogger would you most like to have a blate (blogger date)? It's so hard to only pick one! I'd really like to meet Jen, hopefully one day our Army paths cross. I'm pretty excited that I'll get to meet this Jen pretty soon!

And now for my questions and nominees:

10 Questions from Munchkins and the Military
    1. What person in your life do you most look up to?
    2. Did you have a favorite subject in school and why was it your favorite?
    3. Who is one person you'd like to switch places with for a day.
    4. How did you parents choose your name?
    5. Do you have a favorite holiday? Why?
    6. What do you never leave home without?
    7. Are you team iPhone or Android?
    8. What is one place in the world that you'd like to visit?
    9. If you significant other was on trial for something serious, would you lie to protect them?
    10. Do you have a favorite YouTube video? Share the link!

Amanda at Cats, Cuddling & Carrot Cake

    Share Your Accent

One of my favorite things as a blogger is to watch the vlogs personal videos made by other bloggers. With blogging, it's easy to connect a name or URL with a face and a style of writing. In the back of my mind I always wonder what that person sounds like in real life.

Believe it or not, I'm usually surprised by the sound of each blogger's voice. Seriously, you guys never sound like what I expect you to sound like.

Yesterday, Dara posted a video of her taking an quiz online to determine what type of American accent she has. It was such an interesting video, that I decided that I wanted to do one of my own. It's like a vlog, but without the pressure of actually having to know what you're talking about. Along the way, Dara invited me to host a video link up with her, and from Share Your Accent, was born.

Next Thursday, October 3, we would love for you to stop by Not in Jersey and/or Munchkins and the Military to share your own video. All you need to do is record yourself taking this quiz and post the video on your blog. It would be super amazing if you would share the link up button, so that other bloggers can join in. Think about it, wouldn't you love to know what all these people that you've formed online relationships with, sound like in real life?

You can see Dara's video here, to get an idea of what you're getting yourself into.

Then go here, and record yourself taking the quiz out loud. Maybe include a little intro. Dara had a video about her name.

Finally, come back in a week to share your video and find out what your friends all sound like.

    Love, Alex

    Cara Box Reveal

This was my second month doing Cara Box. It's a fun box exchange where bloggers (and non-bloggers) are paired up and have the task of sending each other themed boxes. This month's theme was Take Me To The Fair. I was super excited to participate again since I had a wonderful experience last month. This month I was paired up with Becca and Laura.

I spent all month getting to know Becca who is a fellow Army wife. She's stationed all the way up in Alaska. She did a fantastic job of putting together a box for the girls and I to enjoy.

V has had so much fun playing with the fair games. Her favorite item from the box though is the photo booth kit. She absolutely LOVES playing with the "sticks".

Adri's favorite item from the box has been the book, My Mom Is The Best Circus. I read this book no less than six or seven times a day. Each time I finish, she insists "more, more".

Also in this awesome box were "Twinkies" (because what says fair more than deep fried Twinkies), animal crackers, icee flavoring, and funnel cake recipe. After all, half of the fun of going to a fair is the food! Becca included a very cute notebook which I have already used for blogging purposes.

I was SO SO happy with the contents of this box. Becca really did a fantastic job of putting together something that we'd really enjoy. Thank you Becca!

Chicken Curry with Cous Cous Recipe - Guest Post

OK. So I don't know about you, but easy meals are my favorite to make. Duh, right?  With everything we have going on lately, cous cous with chicken seems like the perfect delicious meal without a huge hassle. I honestly had no idea how easy cous cous was. Jen makes it pretty much fool-proof. Who knew it was so easy?! Jen also posts tons of fun crafts and projects, that one day I swear I'm going to try.

    ---

Hey ya'll! My name is Jen and I blog over at Beebee Belly. As a fellow Milspouse, I understand PCS season and so I told Alejandra while she was in the middle of her move that I would write a guest post for her and I decided to share one of our favorite (and easiest) recipes. It's for Chicken Curry with Cous Cous.

Never made cous cous? It's the easiest thing in the world. Boil the water, add the grain, cover, wait 5 minutes. Done. Seriously. No stirring, no nothing. I'd say no measuring but you have to measure out the water.

The chicken is almost as easy.

You take chicken (any kind, I buy boneless, skinless chicken thighs and keep them on hand) and place however many you want in a pan. I didn't even defrost it. Pour some chicken broth into the pan and the cover the chicken with curry powder. I used a lot because we love curry but you can use as much or as little as you'd like.

Bake it at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes. Once it's done, place over cous cous and enjoy. Seriously. An easy-peasy meal that is totally delicious. I'm all about easy meals. And since I have a picky 2-year-old, I'm all about family-friendly meals too and since my toddler eats this meal too, I call it a huge success.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this meal and if you like it, come visit me over at Beebee Belly for some more family-friendly and delicious foods.

10 Fun Facts About Florida - Guest Post

Since I'm away in the Western Caribbean, some of my lovely blog friends have volunteered to help keep the blog updated with guest posts. Obi is a fellow Floridian, and graciously typed up some great facts about Florida, while I'm away from the state.

(my love currently lives in this great city), Tallahassee, FL. (for college), and Pensacola, FL. Here are 10 fun facts about Florida. What are some fun facts about your state? 9. The largest lake in Florida is Lake Okeechobee
    10. Super Cool fact here --->There is a bed & breakfast, WildLife on Easy Street, on the outskirts of Tampa that allows you to cuddle with an endangered cat of your choice for just a $100 donation to the refuge. You can choose baby bobcats, cougars, and leopards...if that is your thing!

Quick Hello, a Blog Hop & a Giveaway

Good morning friends!! Things have been bust lately, as we're getting ready to move from Georgia to Missouri. I'm headed to the gym in just a few minutes, and currently trying to get the kids to eat before we run out the door. I wanted to post now, because I know I won't be able to this afternoon. I've got a bunch of good posts lined up in my head, I just haven't been able to sit down and get them typed up. Hubs has a four-day weekend and I no longer have to attempt to keep the house spotless, so I might actually get something done over the weekend.

A cool thing happened last night..! I won a new blog design from Munchkin Land Designs. I'm super excited, since I've been wanting to win one from her for forever! I love Jenn's work, so I can't wait to see what she comes up with for me.

I'm also co-hosting Jenni's (Marine Wife, Mommy & Life) blog hop and giveaway in celebration of her adorable littlest baby's first birthday. Check it out below.

    Liebster Award

I am so excited to say that I made it to and past 200 followers on GFC in the past couple of days. Thank you so much to all of my old and new lovely followers. Being that I'm have over 200 blog followers, I'm no longer eligible for the Liebster Award. However, Lisa from Sorority Life to Army Wife caught me just in time; probably at 199 or so! So, here are the rules:

    The Rules:
    Answer the 11 questions asked.
Leave a link back to the blogger that nominated you.
Nominate 11 bloggers with fewer than 200 followers and let them know they’ve been picked. (See Below)
Write 11 new questions for them to answer. (See Below)

    1. First three movies in your Netflix queue?
We do the streaming version of Netflix, so the first three in my instant queue are Arthur, Bonnie Bear, and the Fresh Beat Band.
    2. Where is your dream vacation?
After taking our first cruise a few years ago, Hubs and I have pretty much agreed that cruising is the only type of vacation we'll ever do. So a week to two-week cruise to any tropical ports would be our type of dream vacation.
    3. How long have you been blogging?
Pretty much since freshman or sophomore year in high school. That's close to 10 years. Holy crap that makes me feel old! I had a DeadJournal, and then a LiveJournal, and eventually I started designing my own webpages and blogging there. I've been doing this current blog for almost a year and just before this one, I had a Tumblr specifically for Hubs to read during deployment.
    4. Sweat pants, yoga pants, or something else?
I'm a fan of no pants. If I absolutely have to wear pants though, any of the above will do. Even jeans if they have enough stretch in them and aren't too tight.
    5. Do you prefer road trips or all-inclusive vacations?
I HATE driving! Hate, hate, HATE! It's kind of annoying with being a military family and having to drive insane distances every so often. So I would definitely choose the all inclusive. Cruises are almost all inclusive.. (:
    6. What TV show is your guilty pleasure?
It used to be Keeping Up With the Kardashians and any of the spin-off shows, but they just annoy the hell out of me now. I'm still a fan of reality stuff though. At the moment I can't think of anything in particular except for The Taste which I started watching to get an Influenster badge.
    7. Home-cooked meals or take-out?
Definitely home-cooked. The meal planning thing is helping a ton with that. As long as I don't get into a rut with the same dishes over and over again, I don't mind cooking. Cleaning up is a whole different story though.
    8. If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
I think it would be either to the 1920's Great Gatsby-ish era or the 1960's Mad Men.
    9. What is your favorite Disney movie?
Eek! I really can't say. I suck as a girl. I'm really not a huge Disney fan. However, I do enjoy this Beauty and the Beat video.

    10. Do you write blog posts ahead of time?
Not usually. I try to occasionally, but a lot of my posts have to do with what happened on a particular day, so it isn't really possible to write those ahead of time.
    11. What do you like most about your significant other (if you have one)?
Single? What do you look for in a significant other?

He's very thoughtful and kind (to me at least) and he takes good care of the girls and I. Occasionally he even gets up on the weekends before me to take care of the babies.

My Nominees (not 11, but 9 of my favorites)
    Beeee Bellies
    Life with the Lieutenant
    Army Wife & Company
    The Guard Life
    Liz's Diary
    Eloquent Rambles
    These Are The Days
My Life As An Army Wife
Deployment Problems (and the Military Life)

    Questions:
    1. Where would you like to live for the rest of your life?
    2. What are the first websites you check when you get onto the computer?
    3. What inspires you to blog?
    4. Are you a cat or dog person? Why?
    5. Do you have any strange or interesting hobbies?
    6. What would your ideal weekend consist of?
    7. Describe the best trip you've ever taken.
    8. What is your favorite recipe to cook for yourself?
    9. What were your thoughts on your spouse/significant other, the first time you met them?
    10. Out of all of the household chores, which is your least favorite?
    11. If your TV had to get stuck on one channel for ever, which channel would you choose?

Looking forward to reading your answers! (:

    Change is Coming! Again!

I am so super excited to announce that I caved and bought a domain! And I got it for a steal! $1.49 for an entire year. I couldn't pass that up! I've been wanting to get away from the Army Wife Mommy Life name for a while because it's just so blah. Not very creative at all. I still wanted to keep a name that would attract other moms and military wives though. Soo.. I came up with: Munchkins and the Military.

In the future you'll be able to find me at http://munchkinsandmilitary.com.

Right now I'm working on a brand new layout (I know I just switched it like two weeks ago) to go with the brand new name. And then I'll switch the actual blog over. I'm super excited and hope that you'll all continue to follow me. (:

    Beautiful Blogger Award

In the past when I've been nominated for blog awards, I haven't really participated. I had my list of blogs that I followed, but was never really close enough to any of the other bloggers to nominate them for that mandatory step. This time is different though! The amazingly awesome Jen over at The Adventures Of Our Army Life nominated me. Thank you!! Check her out, she's one of my favorite bloggers out there! (: There are a few rules for accepting this award, so here they are!

    1) Thank the person who nominated me.
    Done!

    2) Post award image to my page.

    Done!

    3) Tell 7 facts about myself

    1. Hubs and I had only been dating for 7 months when we got married.
    2. I always hoped to have a boy first, so that my other kids would have a big brother.
    3. I am addicted to Pinterest. I can spend hours pinning.
    4. I've seen every single episode of Army Wives.
    5. My favorite thing about the fall is everything pumpkin!
    6. Recently I picked up sewing as a hobby. It's not as hard as I was expecting.
    7. I have a thing for "bully breed" dogs, which sometimes makes moving with the military and finding pet-friendly homes difficult.

    4)  Nominate 15 other bloggers and let them know about the nomination
