Eff Cancer

I apologize in advance for this depressing post rant.

Just two weeks ago my sister's father-in-law passed away from cancer. They discovered it a few months ago, and by then it had already spread to his organs and there wasn't much they could do to fight it.

Early yesterday morning, my band director from high school also passed away as a result of cancer. He had also been battling for a while and wasn't making any progress with treatment.

Although I wasn't particularly close with either of these men, both of their deaths have affected me greatly. It seems as though I've been angry for the past couple of week. Why them?!

Danny's dad worked hard to bring his family here from Venezuela and worked even harder to help support them once here.

As the band director, Mr. Smith had to deal with hundred of crazy teenagers year after year. We did our best to frustrate him, and succeed the majority of the time. He bravely took on the challenge of transporting an entire marching band from Miami to Texas to preform at the Cotton Bowl. We preformed at multiple parades and even at a Phish concert.

I'm still struggling to understand why bad things happen to good people like these. I know God has His reasons but in situations like this, it's hard for me to accept that.

In college Relay for Life was an excuse to stay out overnight at school with friends. Sure,
'/ we raised tons of money but never really put the thought behind it. This year I've donated to some of the students that I still know at school and dedicated a luminaria. I hope that by donating to the American Cancer Society, a cure can be found. I pray that cancer is something that I will never have to experience within my family and that my girls can grow up in a cancer-free world.

  1. I hope that you never have to deal with cancer within your family. I'm sorry to hear about your current loses around you from it. Cancer has drastically affected my family. I am banking that I will die from it or a car accident, and truth be told I'd rather die from a car accident than endure what cancer puts someone through.

Thank you for supporting American Cancer Society.

  4. Don't ever apologize for posting something close to your heart! It isn't depressing it is uplifting to see that there are people in this world who care! It is terrible when these things happen and unfortunetly I don't think we'll ever understand why bad things happen to good people (or why good things happen to bad people!). Keep your head high!
