Upgraded

It takes a special person to put up with my shenanigans. Lucky for me, I found and legally bound myself to a person crazy enough to deal with me for the rest of their life. Not only does he deal with me, he also goes along with most of my ridiculous ideas. Like that one time we camped out in Best Buy for three hours to buy a $200 phone.

Yep. Over the weekend I became the proud owner of an iPhone 6. I've had an iPhone since they came out years ago. Although I wasn't overly impressed with this most recent model, I knew I had to have it anyway. Plus, after destroying my iPhone 5 and using John's old 4 for a while, I was in desperate need of a fast phone with a great camera.

So we sat and we waited. And we waited. And waited. And walked around the store for a bit. And waited some more. For three whole hours. And then they finally called me! After a few signatures, a card swipe, and another signature, she was in my hands. My shiny new phone.

There are a few differences that will take some getting used to, like the power button now being located on the side instead of the top, but so far I'm loving my new phone. It is just a tad larger than I would like, but there really isn't much I can do about that. The camera is great and works fantastically for those low-light photos of Juli that I like to take first thing in the morning while she's still sleeping.

Anyone else upgrade over the weekend? Am I crazy for waiting so long?

My iPhone

I have bad luck with cell phones. Really really bad luck. I've had every version of the iPhone, and all of them have met the same fate. I even had a Droid when we first switched from AT&T to Verizon and unfortunately, it faced the same tragic end.

Since I prefer fashion over function, having a case hasn't really helped much. With my most recent phone though, I had it in an OtterBox-ish case, and I was able to get the screen to last for almost a year and a half undamaged. Unfortunately, it met it's demise as I was unpacking and moving into the house.

Believe it or not, even with a complete chunk of the glass missing, and the metal insides of the phone falling out, it still works. Everyone is shocked when they see me using it. Aside from the front facing camera having a bit of a glare, everything works perfectly. Occasionally, I have a hard time reading text, but other than that, I really can't complain. I haven't had shards of glass in my face or fingers or anything.

They need to hurry up and release the next iPhone.

My Secret Weapon

This evening I discovered a fantastic iPhone app to assist with keeping V under control. Since Hubs isn't here to help out with tantrums, I have enlisted Santa's help instead. I have no idea where she even learned about Santa, because I don't talk about him, but V is deathly afraid to end up on his naughty list. Santa's Magic Phone Call is going to help me finish the year with my sanity and two living children.

The first time I threatened to call, she ended up in tears. Oops. Bad mom. But it worked! If she starts acting up, I just pull the Santa card, and like magic I have a little angel again. At least temporarily.

With this app Santa calls and warns about being put on the naughty list and you're able to choose a variety of reasons why. There are also options for if you have well behaved children. It's cute because it's meant to look like FaceTime, which we do all the time with my parents. V can also call Santa herself and he asks and records what she wants for Christmas. Tonight she called and asked for a "kintar" three times. The best thing about this app though is that it's free! Unlike the Elmo app that I paid for and hardly came with anything, this app has a bunch of fun features.

My Take on the iPhone 5 - Part 2

I completely forgot to include this in my original iPhone 5 post. It's kinda hilarious and completely true. It also explains why I kept referring to my new phone as the iPhone 6.

My Take on the iPhone 5

Saturday night I got together with some friends to play some poker. It was my first time playing in real life, so I was a bit surprised at the end when I had the second most chips and walked away with $15! Being that I was the only civilian there, a lot of the conversation had to do with Army things. Another one of the popular discussion topics was the new iPhone. I was the only one at the table who had one so I let everyone know my opinions, which I'll share with you.

Friday afternoon I walked into the Verizon store with Jacquie, who was looking to get a new phone because hers is just about done. Because she is still on her parents' plan, it was a no-go for her. I however, was a bit luckier in the upgrade department. My iPhone 4 (with custom spider glass screen) has been due for an upgrade for several months now. I was holding out for a new version of the iPhone, so this was finally my chance!

Once I started playing around with my new iPhone 5, I realized that there really wasn't very much special about it. I had updated my iPhone 4 the night before to the iOS 6 so the two phones were pretty much the same. My new 5 has Siri and is a bit lighter but other than that, not overly impressed.

I'll start off with the things that I didn't like so that I can finish this post on a positive note. Like I mentioned before, the differences between the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4/4s are not that huge after the iOS 6 update. The longer screen make it a little awkward to hold.  It also doesn't comfortably fit in my back pocket like the iPhone 4 did. The new phone comes with a different connector, so slot on the bottom of the phone is different. This may pose an issue for all of you speaker system owners. The map on the new iOS 6 is questionable. When using it to get to an event last week, it kept starting my off from the wrong location. It also didn't come with a YouTube app, but it's easily downloadable. I had to switch from unlimited internet to a 2GB plan.

Although I didn't love the size of the new screen, I do appreciate that there are now 5 rows for apps instead of 4. Although it isn't super noticeable, the new iPhone 5 is lighter and thinner. It isn't a huge difference but you can tell. Kinda.  The screen is also much more vibrant and crisp. I find the camera to be much faster than my previous camera. A great camera feature is that you can take panoramic pictures. The earbuds for this iPhone are more comfortable and supposed to be better.

I honestly don't know very much about the megapixel, gigabyte, blah blah blah, so you can consider this the dumbed down version. The battery life has been great so far. The con to that though is that it takes a while to charge. I don't have any major complaints though. I am a huge Apple fan and am never disappointing by them.
