Since we're only authorized to ship one vehicle at the Army's expense, we're paying out of pocket for this one, and lets just say that it's a pretty penny. It was a difficult decision for us to make, but ultimately, it makes the most financial sense for us.
We don't want to sell the Accord any time soon, and we need the Tahoe to help us shuffle all of our suitcases and belonging around the country. We aren't ready to buy a new car yet, and we figured that the $4000 that we'll spend on shipping the Honda to Hawaii and back is probably less than what we would spend on a clunker and it's associated repair costs.
So.. The car is on it's way. We'll probably still beat it there, but it would be nice to have our own vehicle and not have to worry about the cost of a rental.

Yay! Glad it's on it's way to the new home. :)
ReplyDeleteAshley!! I love it, we name our cars around here too. My car is Bertha...but anyway, yay for you guys to be one step closer to pcsing.
ReplyDeleteAwww, you named your car after me?! You shouldn't have! ;)
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to get it sent off! Hopefully there isn't too much of a lag time in it getting there!
Not looking forward to the possibility of having to pay to have our vehicles shipped. Especially since we have two cars, a motorcycle, and I will also be getting a motorcycle within the next year. Glad to hear you got everything worked out and that the shutdown isn't ruining any plans.
ReplyDeleteThey won't let you take any vehicles to Japan. They pay to store one and we sold the other. Then we had to buy 2 once we got there. We bought 2 cars for $1K each, but still. It's so much nicer being able to take your own.
ReplyDeleteYay! Things are moving so quickly it seems! Very excited for you and the fam!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous! I would love to go to Hawaii!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is a LOT of money! I was wondering how much it was going to end up costing to ship one of our cars.. We are thinking that we might sell both of our vehicles and buy a new SUV right before the move and maybe buy something more economical when we get there.
