Half way into the flight, the girls were exhausted and cranky. Of course Adri made a scene by throwing multiple tantrums. If I didn't already know that I had the worst behaved kid on the plane, the lady in front of us with the stink eye, definitely would have clued me in.
I came prepared to buy airplane food, since I knew that kind of stuff isn't free anymore, but they ran out of almost everything before they even got to us, and we were row 25. Aside from being by the toilets, it must have sucked be stuck in the rows way back.
This momma was in dire need of an adult drink, but they were also out of my go-to, amaretto. The next best thing was a half bottle of wine. I'm not sure if the flight attendant noticed that Hubs was military or just saw the look of desperation on our faces, but my mommy juice and Hub's daddy drink were free.
I was a little disappointed that they ran our of just about everything only half way into our flight, so it was a good thing that I was prepared with all sorts of stuff for the kids. It would have been a painful flight if I hadn't been. The gummies are great for helping the little ones clear their ears. Even though they're over 3 oz., TSA allowed us to take fruit pouches though security.
Even after a hellish flight, I can't complain. We landed in paradise. I was a little sad that we weren't able to fly into Honolulu at sunset, but we'll have plenty of opportunities to watch the sun set for the next few years.

Oh no! Sounds like a bit of a hassle! I can only imagine it with two little ones -- we flew from Chicago to Seattle, and with only 1 kid, later at night, that 4 hour flight was still a rough one!
ReplyDeleteMercy! I've packed away that little tidbit about LA vs. Dallas in my brain - thanks for the heads up!!! Now go get yourself some Amaretto, stat! :)
ReplyDeleteYou should complain to the airline. They might give you a free ticket or two. It's really surprising that they were so unprepared for such a long flight.
ReplyDeleteFlights from East to West are torture when you are traveling that far. When Brian and I got married in Hawaii we were living in Philly. It was a direct flight into Sacramento and then a flight from Sacramento to Maui. They are not fun for adults let alone adults traveling with two small children. But yay, you survived!!!! Can't wait to see more pics!

You totally don't realize just how far out in the middle of the ocean it is! That is a looong flight!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had stuff with you for the girls! Can't believe they were out of food. Gaahhh that view is amazing
ReplyDeleteYou guys are troopers and I am so glad you made it safely!
ReplyDeleteMan, that sucks! Good thing you won't have to do it again for a while.
ReplyDeleteYou are there!!! You made it!!! Flying with kids sucks no matter what. There is way to spin it into a happy story unless they sleep all or most of the flight. haha!
ReplyDeleteOh no!! :( Flights in/out of HNL are horrid at best! I always fly at night back to the mainland so I can just sleep :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you made it! I hope you love Hawaii :)
ReplyDeleteOh, Lord. That 8 hour flight (or 10 from Atlanta, like ours was) is quite possibly the worst thing ever. Whenever we flew to/from the mainland on our own dime, I made sure we had a layover somewhere on the west coast. I actually recommend San Francisco over LA, though. MUCH nicer. And a shorter flight. ;) Anyway! I hope Hawaii is good to you!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you made it! Solidarity in hating long flights with children. It's just.... it's like one step short of Hell. We aren't leaving Korea until it's time to go back to the States. And even then, I might just stop on the west coast and drive back. No one can give me the judgey eyes in my own car!
ReplyDeleteI cannot stand sitting on an airplane for hours. The 3.5 hour one from MN to CA is enough to drive me nuts, I can't imagine an 8 hour one...with small children. I'm glad you guys made it safe and sound! Thank goodness for electronics and snacks!
