Don't Take the Leap of Faith

There's this diamond commercial that I've heard a few times recently that just irks me. I don't know if it's just me, or if other moms/wives would agree. Since I can't remember who the commercial is for or what exactly is said, I'm just going to share the version in my head. Hopefully you've already heard it.

This holiday season, you'll ask your wife what she wants for Christmas. She'll tell you that she'd just like for you to watch the kids or make dinner. Now, you can take her word for it, or you can take a leap of faith and buy her this insanely expensive, pretty diamond. Buy her the diamond.

Dear Husband,

No. Please do not take any leaps of faith. I don't need anymore diamonds. I'm scared to wear half the jewelry I already have, because as you know, a vast majority gets broken or goes missing. If you insist on spending ridiculous amounts of money, please purchase items such as kitchen appliances, a deep freezer, crafting materials, or spa certificates. Dinner and a baby sitter would also be nice.
Anyone else agree? I mean really, the fact that your wife isn't asking for diamonds should be enough to detour you. If I'm asking for mom time for Christmas, isn't that evidence enough that I don't have enough time away from my rascals to wear nice jewelry anyway? Or am I just crazy?

Love, Alex

  1. Amen. I don't even have kids and I'd HATE if my husband bought my diamonds. I wouldn't even let him buy me a real engagement ring. I lose stuff, I break stuff, and I'll be damned if he's going to spend 2 + grand on something that's the size of a quarter. No thank you!

  2. Yes!! I have never asked for jewelry on any occasion. I am happy that my husband has always taken it upon himself to buy me diamonds on the off occasion and not when a holiday dictates it. But I am with you on mom time!!! A must have if you ask me.

  3. I agree, I would gladly take the spa day over jewelry and I'm not even a mom yet!

  5. I agree! I would rather have a day to myself than a big diamond.

  6. Nope, you're not crazy! I'm right there with you. I actually did ask for jewelry for Christmas this year -- but I asked for my own jewelry back. I had to have my wedding back cut off after I had L because my fingers swelled up so bad it was practically embedded in the skin. And havent been able to put either of them back on yet, so they need to be resized. But otherwise, I'll take a book. Or kitchen stuff. Things I know are going to get used!

  7. Completely agree....we don't have kiddos yet but I know when the time comes I'm not going to be asking for diamonds. Give me a spa day or dinner and a date night!!! :)

  8. I don't mind getting jewelry, but Mac would never spend a ton of money on something without making sure I like it first, haha.

  9. My husband is always like "you need a bracelet, let me buy you one." I keep telling him that I won't wear one and not to buy it. I can barely remember my watch!

  10. LOL I totally agree! Before having our daughter, I always wanted jewelry for the holidays or a birthday or an anniversary. Now, just take me to JoAnns, and I'm happy. lol
