In the age of Instagram, it's rare that a day goes by where I don't snap a picture or 15 of my kids, but I can't recall the last time I recorded a video. A good video, not a 10 second clip that uses half of my phone memory. Do they even make video cameras anymore? I think I can use my DSLR camera to record video, but would I be able to get hours of footage like my parents used to?
One of the more recent times that I was home, old home videos made their way on to the TV. It was embarrassing, to say the least. But at the same time, entertaining to watch old mannerisms. When I'm old and my babies are gone from the house, it'll be those sweet memories that I'll cherish most. I just have to start capturing them.
Do any of you mommas record videos of your kiddos? What do you use?

My parents always set up the camera tripod to record Christmas morning. You could probably do some generic days (like a day at the beach).
ReplyDeleteI do! My DSLR Records but usually I just use my actual video camera. My parents got it for me when I was pregnant with Em. I have both births recorded plus lots of firsts for both girls.
ReplyDeleteMy parents were always videotaping us. :) I record my niece and nephew with my phone or ipad.
ReplyDeleteI did a lot more when S was little -- mostly on my DSLR. Sadly, when you add in multiple kids, life tends to get busy and I just don't pick up the camera as much anymore ... especially for videos! :(
ReplyDeleteWe were poor and only had one or two home movies from when I was a baby (when a family friend brought over his camcorder). Otherwise, my entire childhood is relived in photographs. I have a lot of little videos (1-5 minutes) long from my oldest when he was younger. I used to edit them in iMovie and upload them to facebook for family to see. Now that I have an iPhone I don't nearly do it as much (and I have no idea where the little point-and-shoot camera is that we used to use for video). I'm trying to get more videos, but life gets busy. At least I'm getting more belly shots this with this 3rd pregnancy!
ReplyDeleteI am so with you on this! Before Instagram even offered video sharing I NEVER took a video of Mia #momfail I regret it so much so I try to be better about taking little clips of Mia every now and again. But only on my phone! I wish I was better about these things! I should have asked for a video recorder for mothers day... I bet they are so small and easy to carry around these days!
ReplyDeleteI try to take more video lately because I remember watching so many videos of myself while growing up. Normally I use my phone, but I do have an older camcorder (from 2006) that I have used in the past.
ReplyDeleteI record on my phone and email it to myself to save on the computer. I love rewatching them. :)
ReplyDeleteMy parent never recorded us. But we are recording addicts!! I got Chris a flip cam a few years ago, and we use my DSLR. We also love to strap the GoPro to Pierce on a helmet or the chest strap and watch videos of him doing stuff. Its like seeing things through his eyes... So entertaining!!
ReplyDeleteI need to record more.
ReplyDeleteMy parents didn't record at all, and I wish they had!
I bought a video camera when I was pregnant and now I hardly use it! It's easier to use my phone and post straight to YouTube to share with my family. I am making an effort to use the actual video camera more and love the idea of my kids watching home videos 20+ years down the road.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a good point! We had so many videos as a kid, but you are right it is not as a big deal now.
