Do Your Friends Know?

A while back when I was chatting with Sara about blog stuff, the topic of friends popped into the discussion. Mainly, our friends knowing about our blogs. To my surprise, I wasn't the only person who kept blog life and real life separate. I had separate personal and blog Pinterests, Instagram, and email accounts. God help me if I ever mentioned the word blog or liked a blog Facebook page on my personal account. For the longest time, I wouldn't even tell Hubster the name of my blog, because I didn't want him reading it either.

I have no idea why I was so scared to let people know that I blogged. You know when you record yourself talking and then you play it back and it sounds like the most annoying thing you've ever heard in your life? I pictured it to be something like that I guess. Why would anyone want to know about my day to day life anyway? I was cool sharing my thoughts and such in the blog world, because chances were I would never run into a blog friend in real life. Heaven forbid anyone ever move to St. Robert, Missouri.

Slowly, my real life friends started finding me. I'd be lying if I told you that I wasn't mortified when a real life friend found my Twitter, followed by my blog. People were liking my Facebook page, and on more than one occasion, Google outed me. I have no idea how people kept finding me.

Because I had maintained separate social media accounts, my personal ones were lacking when it came to updates about life and the girls. I slowly started opening up to the idea of being open about the blog. I deleted the personal IG and added everyone on my Munchkins&Military one. I did the same with my Pinterest. Occasionally I'll post blog stuff on those outlets. I haven't made the jump on Facebook yet though, because EVERYONE I know is on that. I'm sure that once we get moving to Hawaii, it'll be the easiest way to keep everyone in the loop about our lives. Plus, who doesn't want more readers?

  1. A few of my friends know but not sure if they read it which I'm completely okay with.

  2. I actually started my blog with the support of my friends and they were my first followers lol. Most of them don't have any ties to the military though, so it's a bit hard for them to understand - and that's why they encouraged me to blog and meet other amazing ladies, like yourself! :)

  4. A few people know, but it's the ones I'm really close to. I don't like to bring it up to new people.

  5. I started mine for the purpose of family to keep up on the craziness that is my life out here in Alaska. I really never felt the urge to start one until I was SO far away from everyone. I think a few of my friends know...maybe? haha

  7. They may know, but I don't really vocalize that I have a blog. I do a lot more with my photography account then anything else.

  8. All of mine now, but I've always been super open so it wasn't a huge deal to me.

  10. My twitter, IG, and Pinterest account all use my blog handle. I don't really post blog stuff to my Facebook though some savy friends have found it. I don't think I'll ever combine them

  11. All of my "real life" friends have known from the very beginning. I like it that way! :)

  12. I have friends that read my blog and then tell me about it, rather than leave me comments! it makes me laugh. and it's weird when I go to tell them about something and they already know because they read about it!

  13. I love reading my real life friend's blogs but I don't really tell many people about mine. I'm not totally sure why.

  14. I am the same way right now. I haven't been blogging for very long, but I haven't told my family or friends yet. I keep my social media separate for the blog and personal.

My one concern is to what extent I should talk about them or add their pictures. I think that I might feel a little weird if I found out that someone had my pictures up and didn't tell me...but I'm a part of their life...

    Ugh...I just don't know!

  15. Only my husband and my bestie know about it and it took me awhile to tell them both. I guess I wanted to be sure I was going to stick with it first? Maybe one day I'll tell more people about it, but I like having it as an outlet.

  16. Oh heck no. I've just always been weird about people I know reading all my thoughts. I could just imagine my family disecting every single thought and word and then texting me about it. LOL.

  17. A few friends know. I am really bad with social media and blogging. I have a personal FB and I don't do anything blogging related with that account.. Like you mentioned too many ppl on their. Twitter is solely for blogging. Pinterest and IG are a mix of blogging and IRL friends but neither promote my blog so IRL friends haven't caught on.

  18. That's so funny that you wrote about this! I was having a conversation with a good friend and the fact that I blog came up and she was so surprised! I realized I don't really share my blog with too many people I know!

  19. Only a select few of my friends know about my blog. Mostly the ones that found it on accident. The ones I worry about is my family, not that I post anything bad, but just that they'll judge me for it. That being said, I've shown them and they keep forgetting I have it.

  20. I just shared with my friends and family about my blog. Before it was only those closest to me that knew. I kind of like the openness now. I've received a lot of encouragement since opening up.

  21. Goodness NO! A few of my friends know about the blog, but mainly because I invited them to "like" the blog fb page. And they aren't people that talk to my family. I guess I keep my family out of the loop because I don't want that "People are predators and will stalk down your kids and kidnap them" speech from my Dad. I do my best to not reveal too much information but he still would give me a major lecture, and I'd have to bust out my best 16 year old eye roll! ;)

  22. A few friends and my Mom know about it. I may out myself when we move away...we'll see!
